FACTS

As of 2007, celiac disease affects about 1 out of every 130 people in the U.S.totaling about 3,000,000 Americans. Despite this fact, the majority of people with this disease have yet to be diagnosed. The only treatment for celiac disease is the commitment to implementing a “gluten free” diet – free of wheat, barley, rye and oats.

Celiac disease is a chronic inflammatory disorder causing damage to the lining of the small intestine that is classified as both a genetic condition and an autoimmune condition. It is believed that half of all people with celiac disease do not show symptoms or have been misdiagnosed due to symptoms that have been attributed to other conditions. Failure to treat the disease with the appropriate diet can lead to an increased risk for various other medical conditions including anemia and malnutrition, skin and organ disorders, congenital defects, osteoporosis, cancer and miscarriage.

OUR GOAL

Maintaining a gluten free diet is not as easy as it sounds. Simply Gluten Free was created to address the needs of those Americans who are either struggling to make the adjustment of eliminating gluten from their diet, or who want to find a convenient and creative way of maintaining a gluten free lifestyle.
